What we collect

This site does not ask you to create an account or submit personal information. If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to collect usage statistics such as pages viewed, approximate location (country/city), device type and how you arrived. If you reject them or make no choice, Google Analytics does not load.

Cookies

We ask before setting any non-essential cookie. If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and _ga_<ID>, which last up to 2 years and distinguish visits. Your choice is stored in your browser’s local storage (wtuk_consent) so we do not ask again; this is necessary to remember your choice. You can change your mind at any time: open cookie settings. If you withdraw consent we delete the analytics cookies we can reach.

Live waiting times

Live A&E figures are fetched by our server from the publisher. Your browser only talks to this website to show them; no location or personal data is sent.

Postcode search and “use my location”

If you search by postcode, your browser sends that postcode directly to postcodes.io, a free postcode lookup service, to find the nearest town we cover. If you choose “use my location”, your browser asks your permission first; we round your position to about 100 metres, work out the nearest town in your browser, and send only the rounded position to postcodes.io to show your postcode area. We do not store your postcode or location, and they are not sent to Google Analytics.

Why

To understand which pages are useful and improve the site. We do not sell data or use it to identify you.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver pages securely.

Your choices

Use the cookie settings link at the bottom of every page, block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or use Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on. Under UK data protection law you can ask us about any data we hold; we hold none that identifies you. You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
